Could be a result of strict adherence to nomenclature in connection with a (leakage) test schematic:
Currents into a device or module are by default given as positive, currents out as negative.
Otherwise you could use the chip as (strongly temperature-dependent) current generator and energy provider, hohohoho ;-)
