i want to know about fifo like what are the types of fifo and what r its applications

fifo's r used as interface b/w two designs which r operating at different speeds. used like buffers.
synch and asynch fifo's r there.

1) Shift register FIFOs

2) Exclusive Read/Write FIFOs

3) Concurrent Read/Write FIFOs
a) Asynchronous FIFOs
b) Synchronous FIFOs

The choice between those mentioned above FIFO's depends on the application for which they are intended.

Fifo's are used for the interfacing two different modules working with different frequecy or same frequency.Depending upon that we have asynchronous and synchronuous fifo . u can find a lot of material in net

depending on the application u can go for synchronous fifo , where as asynchronous FIFO is used to tranfer data(data bus - if single bit changes u can go for double synchronizer) between two clock domains which are asynchronous to each other.

You can refer asynchronous fifo papers by cummings.

Hi,
According to me there are four kinds of FIFO's
1) single port syncronous fifo
either read or write operation can be done with same frequency
2) single port asyncronous fifo
either read or write operation can be done with unequal frequency
3) Dual port syncronous fifo
read and write can be done simulataniously with equal frequency
4) Dual port asyncronous fifo
read and write can be done simulataniously with unequal frequency
