VxWorks/Application relationship

I am asking about VxWorks & applications relationship.
Is the application statically linked with the OS like the case in ucos-ii or it is executed as incase of embedded linux?

In VxWorks you have two options when creating a project.
1-creat a bootable image in which you link all things in one image , and you can configure Vxworks acording to your needs , it's sutable for release version.

2-Creat downloadable version in which you develop your application to be downloaded over a Vxworks image, more suitable for development or if you need to upgrade your code in feild.
