Blow up your equipment I guess. Basicllay dc spikes are filtered out with by-pass capacitors. Usually 0.01 or 0.1uF ceramic caps over the supply rails.
I know of one application of a 'useful' voltage spike, well, sort of.
It is used by the tv cable company to destroy illegal equipment to receive channels you didn't pay for. The voltage 'spike' is called "The Bullet". It travels periodically true all cable networks and renders most illegal obtained/connected equipment useless.
Naturally, we wouldn't be electronic tinkerers if we wouldn't have a circuit for that. Called the "Bullet Stopper" as published long ago in Popular Electronics Magazine. I built the device for my son in law and it works like a charm...
