viterbi decoder for QAM modulation

Hi every body
i write matlab code for soft viterbi decoder and it's correct for MPSK. when i use it for QAM modulator i get probability of error about 0.5.
can anyone help me?
or who have another matlab code for viterbi decoder that is usefull for 16QAM?:sad:
