:?: Hi Gugs,

I use C@dence's virtuoso GUI mode, but there are always twinklling problems when I use PC as terminal and connected to Solaris Workstation using Exceed. But there is no problems if I use Linux logged in the PC and rlogin from linux PC to Saloris. IS it video display card limitation problem or Ethernet speed problem? BUt I use 100M LNA, should be enough for Solaris to PC data transform.
Each time when I open a GUI view of cell (either abstract or layout view), the GUI window twinkling, so terrible it is for eyes! So anyone who has the same experience to solve it?

manual exceed connection

I don't know the real reason, but I set 256 color mode (no True or High color) for my display setting when I work with Exceed.

exceed pseudocolor

oh, really?! you say we can't use the advance video development when using Virtouso? Not so good, nayway work is first!

cadence xdpyinfo

it's c@dence problem.
which version of exceed do you use? high than 7.0 better.

for i know, if you use true color mode, you can use virtouso but there are some display problem on it. you must refresh again & again.
if you try 256 color mode, the windows display......

icfb performance in citrix

I've had same problem.

I'm working on Windows 2000 (HiColor mode) and connect to LINUX (TrueColor mode) box thru Exceed, which is set to PseudoColor mode. If I run icfb in 24-bit mode on Windows, the display refresh/twinklling every now and then. However, when I switch icfb to 8-bit (default) mode, the problem is gone.

hummingbird exceed /dev/fbs

My experience

is also bad for other than 8-bit color-W2k and 8-bit icfb. I tried:

Exceed 6.0 (little old)
X-Win (only try version)
X-Manager (only try version)
Citrix (used mostly if disconnect is required)
Exceed (newest try version)

X-Win is good
also the newest Exceed but only if IC5032 is used

Because I have to mix IC446 and IC5032 I came back to 8-bit-color mode. I think the problem is because of "online selection" feature of cds. So a mouse move change the grafic drawings. It is the only grafic stuff which differentiate the trouble.

Actually, I use Exc11d 8.0. It's still twinklling, which is so bad and I think no one can tolerate it!!! I tried setting display (Pls, I use MS2000 in PC) to 256-color, it true OK, but the GUI seems so ugly.

Sorry, maybe a silly question: can i know my icfb is 8-bit or 16-bit or 64-bit mode? which command? I think the default should be 32-bit in workstation, right?

use xdpyinfo to check VISUAL mode
It is a known problem of Cadence IC.
You can find the answer in Sourcelink.

So how should do then?

The Startscript will set the X-Server-ColorDepth on 8 Bit and restart the X-Server.
Now you can login as normal. The Login process will choose your default Session (normal CDE).

ColorDepth Setting on SunBlade

First you login in a CDE or KDE Session then type the next command:

corona.saj[3] ~ > m64config -res 1280x1024x60

Restart the X-server by a logout-login.

One problem now occur:
You know I use PC as displaying terminal and connected to SunBlade via Exceed, so I have no access right to do "m64config" on SunBlade WorkStation. Actually I tried the steps what you indicated, but definitely it response: Permission denied. If so, only administrator can do this, right? but change this config will also affect other programme's displaying effect, so changing should be not accepted by administrator. Can only lowen my PC displaying depth to 8 to solve this problem? Hope further response!

you can try:
Exceed->Xconfig->Performance->deselect "Draft Mode" ->click "Tune..."->click "OK" if prompted->save all changes and quit

Great, you are right. Hope keep this topic on TOP for some time, that others can also know this solution. :D :D :D :D
