icprog usb

hi i have a question that i cant solve.that im using a laptop.which has no serial output.so i have a usb>serial converter but how can i make it seem like a com port in ic -programmator?
thanx

ic-prog

Convertors for USB to Serial are available that look just like a serial port to windows, check the stores. This is probably not the problem though...

Non-standard serial ports may not work with many programmers. I know they do not work with JDM types, and may not work with any that use direct manipulation of the handshake lines, rather than simply sending data. Another problem is the voltage - some do not give a true +/- voltage swing that RS232 calls for and may have limited current capability.

What programmer hardware are you hoping to use?

Cheers,
FoxyRick.

icprog usb serial

hello
first have now on your system (win?) a new com.
Second: with IC prog or all other that used the RS port to bit control, you cannot used a usb rs adaptator because it wil be slowly or dont work

ic prog usb

thanx for the replies.good to know some knows what it is.i will use jdm.but if it will be slow i will not try to use it.

I had the same problem - how to programm MP from laptop
without serial port.
I use evaluation bord for USB to RS232 bridge FT232BM (vendor FTDI)
it is pretty small and work fine up to 1 megabaud speed
it is line powered but give only "5V" RS232, so if you need +/-12V
port - you'll need to add some level convereter (max232 etc)
BTW this chip is actually the cheapest in the market as far as I know

usb icprog

FTDI chips are very handy... use it

icprog ftdi

FTDI chips cannot swing more than 50Hz on control lines, thats too slow for JDM prog
Forget it, i've tried it and never have success, even with direct control and Vpp NOT generated by handshake lines (external 13V PSU) :?
You can search for a true-RS232 programmer like http://www.piclist.com/techref/microchip/pocketprog.htm but its much more complicated than JDM

With my laptop i use P16pro-like hardware on LPT port

usb to serial ic

Is it mean it's impossible to build a JDM programmer on top of the FTDI chip (FT232BM) even if I use a MAX232 to convert the signals back to RS232 level?

Thanks!

ic prog

First of all, FTDI claim that FT232BM are capable to communicate up to 1 MBaud so I really can't understand where this 50 Hz limit comes from. Then the VCPI driver allaws for the other FTDI flavor - the one with FIFO and paralel interface to be accessed much like a regular COM port.

The FTDI DLP produces ready to use serial to USB cable.

Wat simple programmer can I build with the FT232BM? I dont have enough time now so I just want to build one simple programmer which can make use of the FT232BM chip to program onboard PIC.

icprog version usb

hi. any solutions/update on this problem? my programmer is ok with the serial JDM configuration before but i have to change now to usb or LPT coz of my new laptop don't have serial. which usb to serial will i have to buy? thanks in advance
