What is meant by radiation loss in transmission line?

Waveguides and striplines have no radiation losses, when in microstrip case the radiation effects are present at any discontinuity section, because the microstrip is an open transmission line.
Radiation losses depend on the dielectric constant (lower the dielectric constant, greater the radiation losses), substrate thickness, and the circuit geometry.

It is the amount of energy that gets radiated from the transmission line instead of being transmitted.
