I have toroidal inductor core but i don't know if it is ferrite or powered iron ,could you help ?

Hi mshh
There are some solutions for your problem
One : if name of the core is marked on it , refer to the datasheet which presented by the manufacturer .
two : measure inductance instead of one or two turn , ferrite cores must deliver more inductance in compare with iron powder .

Break a spare one in half and leave it exposed to humid
air; ferrite is nearly inert (black oxide), powdered iron
will rust somewhat on the freshly broken faces.

Hi dick free bird !
Interesting methodology . i didn't know it , but do you think that he/she has some of these cores ? it seems that he/she has one of those inductors and if he/she break it then then he/she can understand what it made from but no profit because there will be no intact core available . isn't it ?

Best Wishes
