as you yourself have posted the correct relation
but whatever i get from your post i think this might help you
this formula gives relationship between transistor's base,emitter and collector current.
it is irrespective of transistor configuration and biasing techniques.
it is mean that when the transistor in the forward bias mode, ie is equal to ib+ic. normally we just assume that ie almost to the ib because ic is to small.

Both the base current and the collector current flow through the emitter.
Ie = emitter current
Ib = base current
Ic = collector current.
