Hallo,

when simulation spiral inductors, we normally extract the single ended and/or differential quality factor from Y parameters.
It describes the device together with the inductance value from an R-L series equivalent circuit.

What about simulating an DIFFERENTIAL SPIRAL INDUCTOR with DIFFERENTIAL and COMMON MODE excitation.
This leads to the real multimode scattering matrix.

But what then ? How to extract quality factor and inductance from the multimode matrix.

Thanks for all answers.

you can transfer the 2port s parameter with balun and power divider the simulate the DIFFERENTIAL and COMMON MODE inductor and Q

@dingjingfeng

Thx for your answer, but i am interesting in real (calculated) multimode scattering parameters. Means excitation of COMMON and DIFFERENTIAL mode as input field of the structure. This results in one s-matrix for common and one for the differential mode. Another two s-matrices for the coupling between these two modes.

The question is how to extract L and Q from these matrices.

wave port support for the differential port

an inductor is an two port device,you can simulate it with differential port.

but you still get an 2port S parameter(with dff and com mode)
and now you can calculate the inductor with an idea balun and power divider to get Differential Q and L
