Guys could you orient me about smart chargers?

I'm planning to make a charging circuit itself for batteries but i don't know how to prevent it from over charging?

Could oyu guys pls help me tnx schematic diagram would be much appreciated ^^

by the way its for electronic gadgets... what kind of battery and specs would you recommend?

it all depends on your gadget.

what is the voltage and Ah capacity required?

If you are using a lead-acid battery, you could start with Battery information from Battery University. They have lots of articles about all kinds of batteries.

Assuming you are using a standard lead-acid battery, has some good information on charging profiles (note, this is for a single cell, ~2.3V).

The circuit implementations are wide and varied (search the web for "battery charger project"), but a microcontroller with a simple current-shunt and voltage divider would be sufficient to implement the above mentioned charging profiles. However, protection features like reverse-polarity, short-circuit cell protection, etc, require much more effort, and more complex designs.

Hmm let's say lithium-ion? or lithium polymer? it's intended to store energy for later use... the device is a battery pack which will then be used to charge cellphones etc

I know that this circuit comes too late to this thread, and probably your battery is now dead or somewhere in standby, but for fresh forum readers here is one smart charger :
