SIM800L network registration and random output problem ?

Hi all,

got myself those small SIM800L off ebay.

modem.JPG

Just for a try I decided to power it up (through zener diode 1N4007) and connect to USB to serial module to see how it works.
Problem is that when I power it up, and try to send commands it constantly sends:

Code:
AT
OK

+CPIN: READY
AT
OK
AT
OK

Call Ready
AT
OK

SMS Ready
AT
OK

Also ... another example:

Code:
AT+COPS?
Call Ready

+COPS: 0

OK

SMS Ready

Has anyone experienced similar problems?
Also COPS returns 0, could modem be locked to network or something?

I know about SIM900A flashing with SIM900 firmware, and it work I've tested it, are there any similar quirks with this SIM800L module?

PS: Does anyone knows where to get tools and firmware to flash this modem?

Re: SIM800L network registration and random output problem ?

Hello, I do not know if you already solved this.
I had the same problem , I solve it by connecting the reset pin to VCC

I hope that will be helpful .

The reset pin is an emitter follower output. hard strapping it to vcc would have no affect.

Cheers
