no need if they are working on the same clock for IO lines.
for port lines you do not need it even if they have there own clock.
but you may need a pullup resisrot in both the cases.

In PIC if an I/O pin configured as output gets shorted to the VCC or GND , You lost that I/O for ever. If that I/O is input, nothing happens.Use limiting resistors with this in mind wherever applicable!

These devices are designed in such a way that you don't need to use any resistors if connecting them pin(s)-to-pin(s).
Even if there is a confict on two pins (both set as outputs, one L one H) the L-one can sink some mA but the H-one have only week pull-up component(s) inside so the final stage of this combination will be L and this will not damage the other output...
