Hi,

I now see most samsung phones have bluetooth 4.0 connectivity. Is the serial port profile available for bluetooth 4.0 ??

I use the HC05 module to connect to my Bluetooth 2.0 based android phone. Can I do the same with bluetooth 4.0 based phone ??

Also what is the equivalent profile to the SPP in bluetooth 4.0

thanks

Bluetooth 4.0 is backward compatible with older versions of Bluetooth with enhanced security features. Please check the this **broken link removed**

I did not interface HC05 module, I am not sure about HC05. However, in Bluetooth 4.0 SPP mode available you may check **broken link removed**

thanks for the reply, that cleared some things.

Also is Bluetooth 4.0 LE compatible with older versions such as 2.0, and is SPP mode available in this ??

thanks in advance

I am just copying paragraph from internet which stated that "BLE 4.0 support a wide-range of Bluetooth profiles such as: HFP, A2DP, OPP, FTP, DUN, PAN, SPP, HCRP, SYNC, BTLE etc. The adapter will plug-and-play with Windows' own Bluetooth Stack when used with Windows XP, VISTA, Windows 7."

Not sure about that. Bluetooth 4.0 supports SPP but not BLE 4.0.

from the internet I gathered that BLE 4.0 is more complex than 4.0, but with BLE 4.0 it is possible tailor make a profile that is suitable for the application, so it is more complicated but the resulting profile is custom built for the application. This also makes BLE 4.0 incompatible with older versions like 2.0, 2.1 etc.

It is possible to implement SPP on BLE 4.0 which is what some manufacturers are doing, but the SPP on these custom built modules has some restrictions.

Whereas bluetooth 4.0 supports SPP and is also backward compatible with other versions such as 2.0, 2.1 etc.

That's just what I gathered from various sources.

thanks
