Hello,

just a quick question, when saturation occurs in an A/D converter (quantize saturation) does this result in additional spectral frequency components?

many thanks

Yes. Like saturation of analog (continuous time) signals.
See for example a saturated sinusoid. Coarse clipping turns it into a square wave. Odd-order harmonics appear.

In real AD converters you will moreover have compression and increased non linearity in the region around saturation. I allready observed back stepping values wich again were below the maximum when increasing the input voltage more and more.

So It is better, not to use the full range of an ADC in some cases.
