Normally it is done by zener diode . firstly you need to mention regarding which type of charging circuit is you have
Is there using any IC if yes which one .
Can you put the circuit details here if you can ?

Hi Friends, i think its (homage UPS ) sch diagram is not avalable at this time, coz i trying too, but condition is same...............if any friend have this please post or share it.
