Remote listening technique by using IR of wavelength 980nm

I am working on second phase of this experiment , I have to use an infrared beam of 980nm .
Actually i am facing problem in detecting this IR , as IR is invisible to normal eye,
other is that what sort of circuitry should i use to detect the reflected IR beam from the target.?
kindly i need some serious help in this regard. Thankyou

Wavelength is irrelevant other than consistency with the
detector. People also do passive window-vibration-optical
pickup, in order to not have a telltale illumination.

Go look at your photodiodes, any of them will have a
detection efficiency curve somewhere inthe datasheet
or app notes and most in the description at electronics
distributors.

About any silicon photodiode / phototransistor ought
to do, for raw sensitivity; optics, bandwidth, gain etc.
will vary. You might prefer a good-to-go photodetector
module.

If you are in a high clutter or solar illuminated setting,
a modulated laser and a synchronized AC-coupled
sampling detector would reject "DC" and out-of-band
optical inputs.

@ Tpetar , i am working on continuous IR , although your suggested links helped me in making ma concept but the point is that will i get reflected IR beam same as red laser ,i mean in straight line because further i have to use this reflected IR beam on photo detector and then to amplify that and listen that modulated IR beam...

Thnaks for your help dear, but what do you suggest about a photodetector named as S1223 , will it do my job i.e to detect the reflected IR beam ?
