hello
i m doing project in windows in which i use serial,game,parallel port of pc now i want to use linux plz tell me which flavour will be good 4 me
i only want to access hardware
in windows i m working in visual c++ , in linux which compiler i shall have to use

+ i want to write kernal in linux so tell me book for that
i have red hat operating sys cd is it ok or i use other

u can check uclinux

Red hat 9 would be fine and in linux you have gcc compiler to use for compiling c and c++ progs

You can actually use any installable Distro
with g++ or gcc
