Question regarding Reed switches / relays

Anyone here who has an experience using 'reed swithces'?

Would a reed switch activate upon sensing the magnetic field running in a typical 220VAC insulated wire? Or the field would be too weak?

They need a reasonable magnet, only a Hall sensor or a
wound pickup will give you a detectable signal and you
would need some amplification.
