Help in Image Processing

Hi,
I'm new to the world of embedded systems.... I would like to do a project on Image Processing in Embedded systems. I have with me a at91sam9263 board with a 5 inch lcd display. I have also got with me a cross compiler .... Now it there any possibility use matlab and cross compile to the arm platform...??? or the only way out is to use an ide and some external libraries like opencv....???
