I intend to use a programmable PROM to hold the FPGA configuration in a new design. I had made a survy on similar design and I noted that the designers do not use programmable PROM and instead they program the FPGA using microproccessor or controllers.
I want to ask does they do that as a security for their design or the programmable PROM's has technical problems on log lifes (i.e data corrupted for example ).
I use an outside CPLD to download bif V2 fpga from my own falsh memory(not xc18vxx, just regular boot flash, which can be accessed by software). it is very easy for software to download fpga
