Query on Spoken Number recognition

Hi

Can anyone please help me with spoken number recognition. I believe HMM will be optimal because the identified numbers are fixed (0 to 9 only). Do you know of some data for comparison of techniques.

Also, do you know of some implementation that does number recognition.

Do you believe using Mel coefficients with LPC is a good idea to recognize number ? And any reasons..
