Quartz resonator can be successfully used as a sensor for non-electrical values. It is well known that the main advantage of the quartz resonator is a large goodness and stability of the vibrations. The situation is changing at the moment when the resonator is given to external factors. This is the best to be seen by heating the resonator, which changes the frequency of the vibrations. It turns out that the quartz resonator may show deviation from its basic frequency due to factors other than temperature:
- mechanical exposure
- pressure
- acceleration
- electric field
- weight change
- change of pressure in the range 10^-5 Pa to 3,5 bar
- measure the temperature
- measure weight gains (ng)
About the system:
Measure apparatus consists of two parts: a stable generator system and the system of collecting the data. The main task of collecting data system is to measure the temperature and oscillation frequency of the quartz resonator, and then transmit that information through RS232 port. Temperature measurement is realized by K-type thermocouple and digital thermometer DS1820, whose task is to compensate the cold end.
The whole device is based on microcontroller Atmega16 and programmed in Bascom. Specially written application for the PC allows you to collect information about changes in the frequency in the temperature function and imaging results.
