[SOLVED] Purpose of IC Max232

RS232 signal level requirement are from +3 to +12V (mark) and -3 to -12V(space), though very few devices only generate +/-3V most are +/-5V and above.
You need a circuit to shift voltage levels from whatever logic level circuit(0-3.3V, 0-5V, etc) to drive an RS232 signal on w wire of significant length, and this is what devices like the MAX232 and numerous
derivatives do, often using charge pumps to generate the bipolar voltage levels for transmission.

in this chip max232 is using for communication. microcontroller to PC communication via serial port of PC (db 9 connector) .

As uC handles the data of 5V or 3.3V(TTL logic). It's not sufficient to Tx the 5V(3.3V) data to longer distances. There is a possibility to loss the due to cable losses or some other external disturbances. To achieve this RS232 protocol was designed. It handles the data of 12V data(DB9 logic). To convert the 5V(3.3V) data into 12V data MAX232 IC is used. It just bypasses the data in the range of 5V(3.3V) to 12V.

Read the ENTIRE DATASHEET CAREFULLY. You will get what it is for and where you can apply this IC in your project and also beyond the scope of your project.
Don't be lazy and do read it entirely... Don't ignore this.

what is the purpose of using max232.can any body explain it.

It must be mandatory...if you are communicating the uc with pc via rs 232 standard. The RS 232 standard voltage level is +12 and -12v or +24v and -24v...It act as a driver as well as receiver. The max 232 ic converts the TTL/CMOS logic level from uc to the RS 232 Standard Voltage level(mark and space state). The receiver converts the RS 232 level to TTL level(mark and space).
