Could you explain to me the pros and cons of inductive source degeneration? I am designing a power amplifier in PCB design. The source is connected to the ground through vias. Which has some small inductance in practice. So could you explain in detail, what is inductive source degeneration?
Inductances are dangerous when they are tied to Emitter/Source.They may result oscillation at especially higher frequencies.
Therefore they should be used very carefully and if it's possible you'd better avoid them.
I think the primary benefit is that it's a "freebie" (and maybe
also that it's smaller than any route, in PCB technology).
I would be concerned about consistency / matching, and
that since it -is- smaller than a routed line, any routing
then matters bigly in terms of value and match.
