well, for starters, VLSI is Very Large Scale Integration
Its refers to the microelectronic technology we use to fabricate on chip transistors, gates, and many such components minituarised, which would otherwise take up a good deal of size and space.
VLSI is successor of MSI and LSI...following VLSI is ULSI..
