Phone coupler wiring

Hi,
What is the correct wiring for a phone cable coupler (RJ14, I think)?
One-to-one or one-to-four?
I mean the coupler you would use for extension purposes?
The reason I am asking, I bought a coupler and it is wired pin 1 to pin 1. When I test the line, it tells me I have reversed polarity.

Thanks.

Re: Phone coupler wiring

There are two types of MODULAR IN-LINE COUPLERS:
Straight
and
Reverse
If you plan to extend your telephone cable you have to use the reverse coupler that has 1-4 and 4-1 cross-connections ..
