Op-amp Current Consumption?

Hi all,

I am in need to calculate the total current consumed by an opamp from the power section. My power section is +12V and -12V. I simulated the design for LME49724 opamp.

The Bias current from the opamp is always 10mA at no signal condition and also when the input is present. But i feel this is not the total current consumed. I feel i have to add the output current also during its working??? Am i right???

I have attached the simulation capture. Can anyone please explain me the total current consumed with this case???

I think your simulation software (that I have never seen before) does not know anything about the basics of electronics.

you should summing all current output from the power source. BTW, what is your applications of the differential opamp

So i have to sum the bias current and the output current required to drive the load right?

BTW it is for an audio application. We use it to drive the output from an audio codec.

yes, it is very easy because the machine can do it for you. Anyway, interesting application. How is the sound compare to differential opamps? why don't you use opa2134 that is very common audio codec output driver. I design it many years ago, and it is the first time I heard that someone use it in audio except myself. hahahaha................

Hi,

I am using the OPA2134 for the input section in my codec. But with output i need a differential output(Requirement for a Military app). If i go with OPA2134 i am gonna need more than one opamp to get this done and also it costs too much power. But with this fully differential amplifier one is enough to do the job with less power consumption, i feel. Have any other better ideas to do this???pls post it :-D

LME49724 is never a military part! I suggest you better find a military grade differential opamp
