use either rar or unrar for .rar files
wen u download the rpm....
den use the commnad to extract the rar file


rar e -p /--path to rar file /---path where shud b extracted (f file pswd protected)
rar e -p- /rar file location /where to extract (f there is no password)

Try to get RAR binary from RARLAB.COM.
Then use rar x file.rar

Try using K3B to write CD / DVD s.
