netlist creation in orcad 16.3

what is the use of creating net list??? fst design(i.e, schematic) then footprint creation and merge those footprint with our design nxt step is layout...for that layout only we are generating netlist???? sry i dnt knw crtly.....if anythng wrng...plz tell me what is the use of netlist creation???

Steps to PCB design using Orcad.
1. Design circuit using schematic entry package (Capture).
2. Generate netlist for PCB package.
3. Import netlist into PCB package.
4. Place components, route signals.
5. Generate machining (Gerber) files for PCB plant. The above mentioned are the basic steps involved in designing an PCB......
