Need help in image compression technique by using matlab

I doing a project that need some image compression technique by using Matlab,
i had read the image processing in Matlab but still dunno how to start it.
Ireally need suggestion for it.

look out for some examples on compression in "Matlab central File exchange", or google out some examples on image compression.

hopefully ur doubts are cleared by looking at the examples
