libmad & linux

Hi,
I used libmad over ARM platform. I compiled it using ADS1.2 to genrate object code only. then i linked it with my application to get an executable file. I am new to the linux environment. I want to compile the same work to linux envuironment & for x86 architecture. Does anyone have a document clarifying the steps & required commands? or anything to start with.
Regards,
Amraldo
