i want to control my chiller (1000 watts) with an electronic switch . I will have a TRIAC based switch on the pcb.
two questions i am struggling with :
1- is there best practices on how to bring the 110V from the socket mounted on the box panel to the pcb ? like special connectors wires etc?
2- once on pcb is there any precautions i need to take in terms of laying the TRIAC or traces on pcb ?
There are many best practices for surface clearance on PCB (creepage ) for safety, snubbing transients to prevent false firing and leakage current control. Low side or neutral switching obviously leaves the circuit live when not triggered but safety labels or common sense assumes the user will switch the breaker before servicing.
Keep in mind where schematics come from and give less weight to magazines with articles by young researchers or graduates without the real world experience of safety agency certification and DFM, DFT.
