Hi all . . . an interview question

For a given MOSFET and BJT , how can we identify the source drain gate terminals in MOSFET and base ,collector and emitter ?

Well, the correct way is to check a data book or the corresponding datasheet.

Most Power MOSFETs (all I know of actually) have the configuration gate-drain-source with the body (where the marking is) facing you.
With the body (where the marking is) facing you, for transistors:
  • BC series: collector-base-emitter
  • 2SC series: base-collector-emitter
  • PN series: emitter-base-collector

Of course, these are the trends for some common series and there may be exceptions and there are more series. You should always consult the datasheet or some data book.

Hope this helps.
Tahmid.

If it's a Power MOSFET, then most probable configuration is gate-drain-source. If it's a Power transistor, the most probable configuration is base-collector-emitter.

Besides that, you may learn the configuration of some common series such as BC, PN, 2N, 2SC, 2SD, 2SB, BD, etc.

I'm quite sure, if asked, you'll be asked of common devices. You won't be asked about some rare component or such.

Hope this helps.
Tahmid.
