Google says (about household inverters):
I don't think that "smaller" it's the key but "cheaper". How small a house it's supposed to be to not fit an actual inverter form factor? I bet if someone would sell me a 2-3KW inverter for 50$, I'll build a separate room for that inverter.
Anyway, any contest like this it's actually a creative ideas hunting. One million dollars for a brain storming will make Google the main worldwide supplier of household inverters. Good luck, mrinalmani!
