low cost modem

For an embedded project I need a low cost modem. not too much important the speed, as I have max. 8-10KB of data to transfer at the time. 'embedded' modems looks pricey so also a standard external AT comp. modem will do...

Take a look this one. 2400bps, RC224ATF based modem.
Asm code included for 8051 core variants.
