Background of sensors

Hello every one!
i got a big problem of sensor...because i am not a electronic student but i choose this subject of my final year project. So, i think my first step is need to enrich my sensor knowledge. So, i want to know more about sensor background. Can anyone tell me or give me some reference. Thanks a lots!!!

Also, i want to know except bluetooth and infrared, is there any other types of wireless technology in the world?

Re: Background of sensors

For your second question, 802.11 is very common. There are also modules sold that can be used for narrow band (low speed) links.

You might want to buy the remote control link for a gate or garage door opener and use it for your project.
