study of atomic structure: we draw the atomic structure ofr each atom and according to its atomic no like carbon has 6 and copper has 29 and so on..we know that atomic no 6 means that it has 6 electrons and 6 protons. electrons revolve in the shells. shells are also called energy band. becoz the electrons carry energy and they are revolving at different energy levels accroding to their energy. energy levels or energy band are actaully those shells where electrons reside and they revolve around the nucleus. the paths u can say.
the single orbital path for a particular shall was modified which led to the discovery of multiple paths for same shell.... this means slight difference in the energy level which means there a band of energy level of considerable closeness leading to energy band....
