i'm looking for the proof of a famous theorem :
" assume B is an invertible matrix, prove the existence of a matrix A so that A^2 =B..?
"

if anybody show me a link to this proof either in paper , book ,or,......?

if I say (B)^1/2 = A , will this be identical to what u said ?

If you require the proof of the theorem please specify the theorem in its complete form. In any case i would refer you to the book "matrix computations" Van Loan and Golub.
