Looking for a information about RGB332, RGB444, YUV420 and YUV422 formats

Hello,I am trying to do a project which compresses image formats like RGB888 to other image formats like RGB332, RGB444, YUV420, YUV422 using VHDL.So first i want to gather some information about above mentioned image formats.Can someone help me to get some good material on it.

Also please tell me how to proceed with this project.

my opinion:
rgb888 to rgb444 and rgb332 is simple, just discard some lowest bit,
rgb888 to YUV420 , YUV422 is complexer, need some calculation, contains addtion and multiplication.
i think the above operations can done in one cycle.
