Hi Everyone,

I am looking at building a pickit2 programmer and ofcourse I need the chicken or is it the egg LOL.

I need a programmer that can program the 18f2550 microprocessor. I have found a circuit at the following address https://electronics-diy.com/electronic_schematic.php?id=823 but am a little confused with their wiring diagram firstly they are using the 2n3904 transistor but Q1 on their circuit diagram has me confused it is the wrong way around I understand that they can mirror it but I just want to confirm that the c and e pins are going to the right locations on the circuit diagram.

Also with regards to the resistors they dont advise wattage for resistors do I assume 0.5watts?

Also can someone tell me what the ground is meant to connect to. When I load the circuit on eagle schematics it leaves the ground seems to be of c2 not connected to anything.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Just to give some background. I am looking at building a UV exposure box that will run of a pic16f84-04 timer. I want to make this box as my 11 year old wants to learn programming and electronics and is also getting interested in Robotics so I figured a UV exposure box for making PCb is a good place to start. I will then use the uv exposure box to build a pickit2 programmer. I have some books on robotics and pic micro controller and then my son and I can start learning together.

Hope someone can help me with my Question above and sorry if the background wasnt needed or boring (lol)

Thanks

Thanks again

ebmpic,

Thanks for that the attachment wasnt coming up yesterday on your post, but I can see it now so am having a look.

kind Regards

Hi Embpic,

Have had a look at you schematic I am guessing the other side of the SV1 is the same as the original schematic that I posted. I just wanted to confirm the zener DiodeD1 is 8.2 volts the original schematic that I attached the link to was a 6.2Volt diode. Is this correct ir was the diode over speced? Can I use my 6.2V zener diode or does it need to be 8.2 volt?

I have also noticed that the capacitors in your schematic are reversed to the original schematic that I posted please confirm this is correct and the two 39pf capacitors in the original circuit are not in your posted schematic are these caps needed I have read on some posts that they need to be added for some of the newer pic chips and I am looking at programming a 18f2550, it is great if I dont need them as it makes my circuit smaller.

Also I am using 1/2watt resistors is this ok or schould they be 1/4 watt?

I have tried the schematic that I posted and it doesnt seem to get recognised in winpic800, winpic or picpgm but I can see it writing in winpic800 as the red led flashes but then at the end of the program routing it fails.

Thanks for all your help
