ir remote codes for pic

hi friends
i am doing mini project using pic .. my project is to control fan speed n on and off the lights using ir remote ..i dono the codes of the remote buttons plz help me .. which remote i can use for the above project.. plz tel ur valuable suggestions

i am using tsop 1738 .. i dono how to interface remote with pic ... so plz help me to complete the project n also which remote i want to usefor this project

hai use the RC5 protocol, basically all the home appliance such as tv ,washing machine ,home theater are working on the rc5 philips protocol.
it will support all the function.

if you dont know the protocol then do in this way
if there is any capture registers then capture the pulses and assign perticular value for that captured data
