In Technical Domain Percentage/ Grades are Everything, Is it so??

I am Post graduate student in VLSI Domain, I have one doubt i am looking for Internship but all the companies that are coming for Campus set a 70 % cutoff for shortlisting. I am having 73% in SSC, 59.54% in HSC, 72% in my B.Tech. and 8.5 CGPA in Mtech 1st year.

Due to some reasons i am unable to score well in my HSC exam. But that thing is now becoming so big that i am not even getting shortlisted for 1st stage of any Company.

Is it so much necessary to have high % and those who don't pass this condition at any level cann't even think about getting into core industry??

Pls share your view to show some guidance
