image processing software

i need to do real time image processing for my project. which software should i use for real time image processing. i need your kind suggestions please..

try matlab it has a image processig toolbox cost some 99$ for students. u may try octave its free

does it supports for real time image processing too.
bcoz as for i know its not suitable for real time processing.
actually i have to use image processing for real time line tracking and obstacle avoidance.

in that case u have to go for a dsp processor or an rtos based system. If u want a software application to do your image processing work u should have an operating system for the application to run. For your case a dsp processor will be good or go for fpgas. good luck
