idea to implement final year project

I m student final year engineering (undergraduate) . i want to implement and study my final year project which is about "remote monitering and cotrol system(SCADA)". from where i should start it so that i can get command on my project theoritacally as well as practically. I want to start my project from basics.

i mean if u r using PC, then control ur desired XYZ (any thing) from ur PC.. when u succeed then log-in remotely to this computer using PC ANYWHERE (a software), or any other...

is it looking simpler now??...huh

First you should start doing controls using serial/parralel port of the pc or using PLC , then you should try to build a scada using visual basic or use one of the well known scada programs like intouch .
