I'm a music student so i'm afraid i am slightly naive with my electronics but basically i am looking to build a simple clock driven sequencer that can trigger a synth.

I was thinking of using a 555 timer to act as the clock to something along the lines of a baby 10 sequencer this i think i can do. Now ideally i need a synth that will react to the voltage given by the sequencer? I've been doing some research into VCO's but i need to keep it simple can anyone help?

I want to keep this small and simple thats the main point here.
