I am a student of software engineering and having this is my first project with microcontroller. My knowledge about hardware is minimal.

Right now I am ready to connect my ATmega8 to Sony Ericsson K508i, but I'm doing a test by using Hyperterminal.

I used this circuit

First the ATmega8, it's respond well.
And second the phone. I don't have a data cable of the phone by the way. So, to test the phone, I just replaced the ATmega8 with the phone, using phone Rx(pin4),Tx(pin5) directly to MAX232 and ground(pin10) to ground. Refer to https://pinouts.ru/CellularPhones-P-W/erics_t28_pinout.shtml
But in Hyperterminal when i tried to type anything, its just giving a strange character. I tried to switch the phone TX and RX but its just the same. I tried also to change the baud rate, but not working.

Is it maybe the phone won't communicate with the MAX232 circuit like the ATmega8 ? Or ?
Please help.

Regards,
Darrel G.

Pin 11 of MAX232 should be connected to Rx pin of Mobile and pin 12 of MAX232 to Tx pin of mobile. Voltage levels of mobiles Rx and Tx and MAX232 pins 11 and 12 should match. If you still get garbage data then data might be inverted. Post manual of K508i. I might be wrong about the Rx and Tx pins of mobile.

Thank you for your respond, yes i already test it, maybe the voltage levels of the phone wasn't correct. Do you know where i can find the manual of k508i ? (what do you mean by post ?)

Regards
