Hi,
Which of the two simulator is better.
I need to select one simulation enviroment for the simulation of an complete AMS chip.

Thanks

Re: HSPICE or SPECTRE

less convergence problem.i like spectre.

Re: HSPICE or SPECTRE

Spectre has new algorithm and faster speed compared to HSPICE.

Spectre also has less convergence issue.

Spectre can do co-sim (Verilog or Verilog-A and Circuit).

Yibin.

Hpice 2006 version can does co-sim, too.

Re: HSPICE or SPECTRE

isn't HSPICE a school project type thing?
Besides, spectre has schematic GUI while
for HSPICE, you need input the netlist
which is a lot effort if you have lots of xtors,
am i right ? I prefer SPECTRE anyway.

HSPICE or SPECTRE

i think new version of HSPICE will be a good option

Re: HSPICE or SPECTRE

Spectre has more advanced simulation capabilties including a better and faster convergence, better time-step control. SpectreRF has a lot of useful tools in RFIC Design such as calculating of IIP3 directly and PSS analysis.

@ gte582w: Though its true HSPICE can be used with a netlist, modern tools like Cadence allow us to use schematics to simulate circuits directly. You don't need to necessarily write netlists.

Re: HSPICE or SPECTRE

Thanks ajitg, I agree that SpectreRF is another set of powerful tools
which mainly use the idea that periodic waveforms can be converted into
frequency domain and solve there instead of time domain which dramastically
improve the speed while maintaining the accuracy.

Re: HSPICE or SPECTRE

No,use hspice artist

No,use hspice artist,you needn't input the netlist

Re: HSPICE or SPECTRE

is hspice artist a GUI interface? is it windows version?

Re: HSPICE or SPECTRE

hspice simulation can be executed directly in virtuoso envirment.
you can also use hspice by input netlist, and it's simulation control option is more powerful than spectre

Re: HSPICE or SPECTRE

i think spectre is the best

Re: HSPICE or SPECTRE

spectre

Re: HSPICE or SPECTRE

I think spectre is more convenient for mixed-signal simulation.

Best Regards:D

Re: HSPICE or SPECTRE

spectre better than hspice

Re: HSPICE or SPECTRE

Hi,
Any info on this quote.

Is hspice a GUI inteface

thanks
sarfraz

Re: HSPICE or SPECTRE

I think HSPICE is not a GUI interface. we have to generate the netlist from the schematic and import the netlist and after that we need to run the simulation where as Spectre is a GUI interface. But it is also possible to run spectre in commannd prompt. It is always best to run any simulation using command though it takes time
