can I connect 26 computers by using 2 hubs with 16 ports each and connecting the two hubs to a router for my internet connection??

Re: How to use routers??

Is your hub a router or switch kind of device.
It is possible if there is devices to do the routing....

Re: How to use routers??

thkyou for the reply.....

i will add a router to my connection to do the routing but how will i connect my two hubs to the router?? will i connect it by a straight through or cross over cable??

Re: How to use routers??

You may like to leave down the model or reference
for your hub. Some equipment requires straight or cross.
It can be either both. It depends.
Likely to be a straight.

Re: How to use routers??

A hub is just a repeater, or in other words whatever
gets in one of its port will be put in the others ports.
That means if you have big traffic in the hubs they
will likely to saturate the bandwidth.
For other hand a switch is a little more intelligent,
it knows which computer is connected (by its IP
address) and put in that port just the traffic that
is directed to that IP only. Consequently reducing
the saturation.
You can use a router to connect externally like
when you are at home and use a router to go to
internet. The router will pass only traffic that goes
to an external address. It is a some way a valve
that separate internal traffic from external traffic.
You can connect the router directly to any port of
the hub. It will take anything that is going out.
Now days some router have multiples ports. That
is just like to have a router and a switch in one box.
One of the port usually is marked or separated from
the rest so it will be use to connect to the modem.
For the hubs you can use one port to connect to the
next hub just like it were another PC. Some hub
already have a port and a button for upstream traffic.

I would recommend to you, since there are 26 computers
NOT to use hubs. If you can replace the hub by switches.
It will save some bandwidth and it is not much more expensive.
